Beginner Tips for Unique Product Photography

New to product photography?

Not sure where to start?

Want to know how to get professional-looking photographs for your website or social media profiles?

Here are some great tips to help you get started and start the journey to amazing photographs!

1) Invest in a white lightbox

These don't have to be expensive. Depending on the size of your products, you may only need a small one! The main benefit of using a lightbox is the photographs you take tend to have no shadows, meaning you can cut the product out and remove the background easily for marketing purposes.

2) Consider getting a tripod

To ensure that images are taken with long exposure and minimise the risk of movement. Tripods are great for ensuring a crisp photograph is taken (better for high-res photography on a website).

3) Download some photo editing apps

Without being a professional, you can still achieve that sleek photography with some help from specialist apps. Here are a few to get you started: Snapseed, VSCO and Prisma.

4) Consider what's in the background in photos

If you're taking natural photographs, not in a white lightbox, consider what is in the frame when you take the shot! There's nothing worse than seeing 'messy' photographs showcasing products on a website or social media. Think about your product and the feel for your website/social media accounts.

For any generic social posts, remember to use royalty-free stock images. There are lots of great websites out there which provide these including Unsplash and Shutter Stock.
