NEW Social Media Updates

If you follow me on social media, you may have seen that I recently shared a little snippet of social media updates which are coming into effect shortly.

I wanted to dive a little deeper into these updates and give you some actionable advice on how to utilise these in your social media strategy.

1️⃣ LinkedIn is removing carousel posts in December

Along with removing carousel posts, LinkedIn will also be removing profile videos and clickable links within images.

What does this mean?: From 14th December, if you have previously shared a carousel post (multiple static images), they will be removed. If you have a profile video, this will also be removed. If you've previously shared a clickable link within an image, the image will remain but the clickable link will no longer be valid.

Moving forward: LinkedIn is prioritising static images / text-only and video posts.

LinkedIn says that users can get LinkedIn to send them a copy of their profile video or files from their carousel posts by contacting contentsupport@linkedIn.com no later than December 11th.

2️⃣ Instagram is testing the ability to preview a post before you hit 'publish'

Recently, the option to preview a reel has been rolled out to many accounts, meaning you can preview your reel before you publish. This has stopped you posting anything with text being cropped / noticing any mistakes etc.

What does this mean?: You'll be able to spot any errors before you hit live!

Moving forward: If you wish to have an aesthetic grid, this will make it so much easier to do in the near future as opposed to looking at third party apps.

3️⃣ Instagram is testing a feature to let you turn off the read receipts on DMs.

This one is pretty self-explanatory. You may soon be able to turn off the read receipt on your DMs so others won't be able to see when you've read / opened the message.

4️⃣ Instagram is testing sharing comments to stories

Recently, Instagram has allowed you to share a comment from your post into a reel. This has been great for businesses to share FAQs and create another piece of engaging content. Being able to share these to your stories will just mean quicker content creation and perfect for answering questions, increasing thought-provoking content and also getting your content seen by more of your followers.

If you have any questions regarding any of the above updates or want to jump on a call to discuss any of these and how you can utilise them within your strategy, please get in touch!
