My number one tip for social media
Social media blows my mind. Growing up, if I had told my parents that one day, I will run a business virtually helping other businesses with their marketing utilising apps on our computers and mobiles, they would have looked at me like I was mad.
Social media is an incredible way to market your business and allows you to effortlessly interact with a whole new network of individuals and businesses that in the non-virtual world, AKA the real-world, you would never have met.
There is no doubting that having a strategy for your social media marketing is 100% necessary, but there is one thing that is fundamental in determining the success of your social media efforts and that is being SOCIAL.
Over the last few months, I have seen a real increase in businesses coming to me and wanting to use their social media channels for just sales, sales, sales without giving any consideration to the fact that social media is the nurturing aspect of marketing – where the relationship building happens.
Social media is a great place to market your business, but it is essential to ensure your first interaction with your audience isn’t a message trying to forcing a sale but rather a conversation that nurtures and engages the relationship with each connection.
Social media is a noisy place, however, the more you engage with your followers, the more you get to know them and they get to know you, the more they will trust you and the more likely they will be to want to work with you – social media rarely leads to sales overnight, it takes time, consistency and genuine connections to get the most out of it.
